Report “My time in Ventanila”
I imagined volunteering in a completely different way. To be honest, I always thought that such an assignment is above all exhausting. I didn’t think that I could gain so much from it. I was in Ventanilla for almost three months, at Estacion Esperanza.
I was pretty nervous on the way there and I thought, “What am I going to do?” But only two weeks later, all my concerns were gone. I felt comfortable very quickly and realized that I really enjoy my work. My tasks could not have been more varied: Tutoring, teaching dancing in school, preparing and conducting afternoons for children, leading floorball training, designing the children’s program for street missions, etc.
I could learn a lot about myself and I think it is a good experience to live in another culture for a while, it broadens your horizon. Sure, there were also challenges. Everything in another language can be exhausting from time to time and living with many different people is always a little challenging. But all in all, I can say I enjoyed the time to the fullest.
Getting to know a new culture, getting out of my comfort zones, trying new things and sharing life with people from there. This time was a very valuable experience for me that I will never forget.
VThank you, Estacion Esperanza for this time.
