Estacion Esperanza

Overall Strategy

As already mentioned, Estación Esperanza is located in the Luis Alberto Kouri Haana slum, in the Ventanilla agglomeration municipality, in the north of Lima. The focus is on working with children, young people and their social environment. This primarily includes the family, but relatives and the neighborhood also play an important role.

Goal of our work

The aim of our work is to support and motivate people on their way to constructively creating a better life. We accompany and advise the inhabitants of the slum. We work together with them in order to improve their living conditions.

Estación Esperanza strengthens the family members and shows them how to support the children and their development. We show the parents how to offer their children a safe family environment.

versatile programs

The parents are shown how to raise children and positively influence their lifestyle. They should set achievable goals with the children and equip them with the necessary tools so that these goals can be achieved.

The work also includes interaction between families and their neigbors.

Versatile programs are intended to strengthen social relationships beyond the family and thus create a good atmosphere, which in turn has a positive influence on the growth and development of minors.

I alone know what I’m going to do with you:
I, the Lord, will give you peace and free you from suffering.
I give you future and hope again.

Leisure projects

Leisure projects of various kinds are helpful, from community games to handicrafts to a (recently created and successful) youth group with young people of a parish outside the known residential areas.

In this way, with the Estación Esperanza project, we use motivation, advice and positive community experiences to positively influence the lives of those families who are socially damaged and we do our best to give them future perspectives. This affects many families, if not most.

Contacts with organizations

In addition, Estación Esperanza connects families with local churches and Christian organizations, which provide further support or – if necessary – can offer specialized help.

We are also in contact with other organizations, e.g. with some hospitals. These are especially important when the children need therapies.

This addresses the missionary approach. We have experienced that embedding the people in a living Christian community massively increases the chances that the first attempts at a new way of life will not fizzle out or be given up in the first crisis.

In addition, such a panish offers the opportunity to “train” the basic Christian values to a certain extent using lived examples. What succeeds in this sense leads to a strengthening of self-esteem.
